One of the slides very clearly laid out the differences between art In space and art As space. Thinking about the difference like that has really made me think about how lighting for a theatre piece or for a concert could go both ways and how do we as artists make that decision to be in or as the space? The most important part is making art With the public which is the ultimate goal I believe. Getting people to not just see or watch art but to truly interact with it makes a world of difference. Another slide that piqued my interest was the one on Constructivism. I didn’t know that word existed until now and it has already shaped so much about how I think about art and how I practice my art.
Questions I have for myself are how can a concert make art with the public?
Is it bad that I think of art needing to be more than just art for the sake of art?
Is it okay to create art for a site but isn't site or place specific that ignores the history of the site/place?
A connection that has become clear to me is that when going through the artistic process you must think of the art is if the art is in,as or with the space it is inhabiting.
