A Genealogy - Noah Hernandez

What struck me most, in more of a general view, was how oblivious I was to there being an abundance of community engaging art that I had not really known about before this class. Especially more so after that powerpoint, it is quite evident that this form of activism has been a reoccurring phenomenon for quite a lot of years. It is not a sector of art that is often discussed at length, like Renaissance Art, Gothic Art, etc. It in itself is a movement worth sharing and discussing to further cement its place within society and common knowledge.

The piece that stuck out to me most, was the Federal Theater Project during the Great Depression. I have always known facts about this era, and all that FDR had done during this time of crisis. However, this was new knowledge that I found quite interesting given the actual federal acknowledgment that arts are important for people's mental health. This theater project falls in line with people's need for entertainment and gathering, which is why entertainment and food were highly sought out during the Great Depression as a form of escapism. This just proves how important these aspects of culture should be valued.
