Right now, there is just so much about which I am concerned, worried, anxious, angry, and confused. I am concerned about climate change, women’s inequality, LGBTQ+ inequality, racial injustice, the prison system, income inequality, inaccessibility to education, the homeless crisis, animal species endangerment, the adoption and foster care systems, access to abortion, lack of sexual, physical, and nutritional education for young people, corporate greed, Pharma, inaccessibility to healthcare (physical and mental/emotional), religious conversion missions, religious warfare, lack of gun laws, school shootings, public shootings, domestic violence, inaccessibility to nutritious food for whatever reason, among more. At this moment in time, the three I will choose to look at more specifically are:
- I am deeply concerned with the lack of holistic education that public elementary, middle, and high school students receive in regards to sexual, physical, nutritional, and mental/emotional health and wellness. There is not a complex, inclusive, informative curriculum to provide learning for young people about the well being, health, and safety of their own minds and bodies. For many, their public school may be the only source for this type of learning. Therefore, we must find a way to implement an in-depth, inclusive, and all-encompassing curriculum for this type of education, so that it can be taught alongside other core subjects, because it is, indeed, a core subject.
- I am incredibly frightened by the tragedy that are school shootings. I don’t have answers right now, nor do I know how to end this pandemic, but I know that I am scared and angry.
- I am deeply concerned about the still unequal treatment of womxn and female-identifying individuals. There needs to be greater access to abortion services, a severe decrease in the cost of sanitary products, birth control, Plan B, etc. There are still problems with womxn not being believed, being shamed, and abiding by laws created by non-womxn and imposed upon their bodies.
