Gabrielle Galloway Week 2

I think the artists in The Roof is On Fire truly created a safe space for young people and this probably energized people to participate. If I were to hear of this event, I would feel comfortable because I’ve had many talks in parked cars discussing important issues. Some other political spheres like town halls or rallies can intimidate me and make me feel like I don’t belong. I think the most important element is that the voyeurs do not engage with the students. As a young person and as a woman, I often feel like my elders or men will step in to tell me how I’m wrong. I know I don’t have as much life experience, but some of these issues have more relevance in my life than others and no matter what I believe at the very least opinions should be respected and not interrupted. I think this project helped to elevate these people beyond stereotypes that others condemn them to and I do hope it changed some people’s minds.
